Big Dawg Productions moved into a new space, the Cape Fear Playhouse on Castle Street, in 2010. The intimate theatre has fewer than 60 seats, which gives the audience a unique perspective. The theatre is also available for other theatrical companies or events who are looking for affordable space in Wilmington NC.
The non-profit company presents both new and well-known plays and is coming into its own as a force in the Wilmington theater scene.
Big Dawg Productions wins awards
“The Hermit of Fort Fisher” was Big Dawg Productions’ most recognized production. Eben French Mastin won Best Actor in a Play, Charles Calhoun won Best Newcomer, Steve Vernon won Best Director and the play itself won Best Play at the Wilmington Theatre Awards in 2015. “The Hermit of Fort Fisher” was so popular that it sold out completely not only in Wilmington, but in Southport as well.
Jaimie Harwood was voted Best Newcomer for Big Dawg’s production of “The Miss Firecracker Contest”, among other roles, in 2016.
