Bluewater Waterfront Grill boasts a must-see view if you are looking for a picturesque dining experience. Sunset pastels – pink, orange and lemon chiffon – turn the marina into an amazing watercolor. Situated just over Wrightsville Beach’s Causeway Bridge, which locals call “the first bridge,” as you approach town, the sprawling two-story restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor patio seating.
Casual American food – offering seafood, meat, vegetarian and above all, creative entrees – feels cozy yet sophisticated. The culinary team brushes brown ale barbecue sauce on dry-rubbed baby back ribs. The creamy Bluewater Shrimp and Grits, one of the Chef’s latest creations, is served with large shrimp sautéed with shallots, mushrooms, cajun spices and served over a fried Asiago polenta cake. Jumbo sea scallops prepared in an orange basil vinaigrette. Grilled NY Strip with Parmesan peppercorn butter.
They have a variety of appetizers, including Norwegian smoked salmon dip and cheesy crab dip to start off any meal. At lunch, opt for the Blackened Mahi Tacos served with fresh, housemade pico de gallo and sriracha lime sour cream, or maybe a local favorite, such as the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes. Everyone looks forward to the seasonal soft-shell crab sandwich. If you’re really hungry, order the fried calabash seafood platter which comes with flounder, shrimp and oysters. There are also a number of salads and vegetarian options, including the Portobello Mushroom Wrap and popular Blue Cheese Wedge Salad, just to name a few.
Daily features are other good bets for lunch and dinner, offering up the freshest catch from the crystal waters. If you’re looking for a Sunday brunch spot, Bluewater serves a brunch menu with several flavorful items in addition to their lunch items. Try the Bananas Foster French Toast or Southern Breakfast Burger with pimento cheese and fried egg, and don’t forget to order a bloody mary from their build your own bloody mary bar.
A full bar serves all sorts of specialty cocktails, local craft beers and wine. Wine is poured by the glass or bottle, and a list of vintage wines are available upon request. For those looking to celebrate special occasions, Bluewater has several private rooms, including a banquet room on their second floor overlooking the marina. Bluewater is open daily for lunch and dinner.
