The Scoop has been serving hot dogs, ice cream, and homemade treats to locals and visitors of all ages in the Cotton Exchange in Historic Downtown since 1978. It’s loaded with the kind of deliciousness that takes you back to easy summer days when all you had to worry about vanilla and chocolate dripping down your chin. This is a perfect spot to refresh with a Nathan’s Famous beef frank, available with 40 toppings, allowing for such varieties as a PB&J or taco dog. The dozen flavors of ice cream offered are available as a big, bigger or ginormous scoop. Sundaes, popcorn and milkshakes are available too.
The Scoop does old-school comfort food too. Try an Elvis-style grilled peanut butter and banana sandwich or classics such as BLTs, chicken salad or tuna melts. The deck is a cozy place to lick and nibble, too. Don’t forget to take home a bag of popcorn, made on site with a wide variety of toppings.
Co-owners Terrie and Michael Wallace purchased The Scoop in 2016 and have made adjustments to improve quality, convenience, yet still keep the welcoming, local vibe of The Scoop at the center of what they do.
Although the couple is not new to running successful businesses in Wilmington, Michael Wallace says he’s always dreamed of owning an ice cream shop.
“An ice cream shop brings joy and nostalgia. It promotes fun, friendship, and family memories and that’s why we love this type of business,” he said.
Before buying The Scoop, Terrie Wallace operated a storefront for Port City Popcorn; The Scoop has become the new home for Port City Popcorn.
There is something for everyone at The Scoop:
Hot Dogs: Patrons can choose from traditional and non-traditional hot dogs cooked to order on the grill. The Pizza Dog is a best seller topped with marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, pepperoni and cooked in the oven (yum!). Other favorites include the Southern Dog, Luau Dog, Chili Dog, or take advantage of the option to build your own deliciously fun combination.
Ice Cream: Known for their “extra creamy” ice cream, The Scoop’s ice cream is 16% butterfat which makes for the creamiest ice cream around. Indulge in the favorite flavors from your past and dabble in more adventurous flavors such as Caramel Apple, Butterscotch, or Pumpkin.
Cooked to Order Pretzels: The perfect snack to enjoy in the patio or take it with you on the go.
Salted Caramel Cookies: Homemade in house and sold 3 for $1.00 – a must try! Feeling extra sassy? Top a cookie with a scoop of ice cream!
Waffle Cones: Homemade plain, chocolate, vanilla, and cinnamon flavored (sometimes) are made fresh daily on site.
Port City Popcorn: Fun, unique, and delicious flavored popcorn is now available at The Scoop. We recommend you sample the Guadalajara, Chicago Style, Bacon Cheddar, and White Cheddar before committing to a bag. But you might just end up with them all.
Sandwiches: Follow The Scoop on Facebook to stay up to date with menu changes and offerings.
