You’ll immediately know the Carolina Ale House theme when you walk in the door. Two giant, flat-screen televisions and 46 others broadcast sports throughout the family-friendly restaurant. In between are all manner of sports memorabilia from local and state teams. Watch the games and races at booths, bar tables, a large bar inside and another one outside.
The menu fits the fun, game-day feel at this South College Road restaurant. Munchies range from cheese fries to creamy spinach dip to fried pickles to jumbo chicken wings, which are offered fried, grilled or prepared with a dry rub and baked. Wing sauces include Buffalo, honey Buffalo, hot sweet & sour, spicy habanero and fiery Thai. Chili is available every day as well as other soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, pizzas, entrees and desserts.
The signature Pub Burger is piled high with smoky bacon, American cheese, fried onion strings and secret sauce. Hand-battered chicken tenders, crispy bacon bits, hard-boiled eggs, Monterey Jack and cheddar cheese land on the Southern Fried Chicken Salad. Get a classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich with sautéed onions, mushroom and green peppers or a chargrilled rib-eye with garlic mashed potatoes. The kid’s menu is varied, with mac and cheese, grilled cheese and chicken tenders. On Tuesday night, kids meals cost just 99 cents for children under age 12.
Portions are huge and no one goes away hungry. The beer is cold, cocktails are an option and service is efficient. The Carolina Ale House is open, and the full menu is served, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily.
