Born in Elizabethtown, not far from Wilmington, Burney’s is especially known for its croissants, soft pillows full of fruit, custard, chocolate, even special flavors like s’mores. The family-owned business bakes every day.
The place is not all about sweets. Get savory breakfast sandwiches, pepperoni rolls, ham and cheese rolls, pimento cheese and bacon rolls, all fresh from the oven. Sandwiches include chicken salad, pimento cheese and BLTs. If you walk in on a low-carb or no-carbs diet, don’t worry. Cooks will wrap your sandwich fillings in lettuce leaves. They also have gluten-free bread and sell chicken salad by the pound.

Find Burney’s Sweets & More in Hampstead Station shopping center, at the intersection of U.S. 17 and N.C. 210. Hours are 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The bakery is closed on Sunday.
Those traveling on 40 to Topsail Island are routed onto 210 to reach 17. A stop at Burney’s Sweets & More involves doing nothing more than turning into the Food Lion plaza and is sure to provide a welcome treat.
