Specialty Facilities at New Hanover Regional Medical Center

The New Hanover Regional Medical Center is a vast, award-winning network. There are a large number of specialty facilities at NHRMC that are worthy of special note.

NHRMC Betty H. Cameron Women’s & Children’s Hospital offers expert women’s and children’s care including obstetrical care for routine and high-risk deliveries. The unit handles about 3,700 births each year. Other services include the state’s only all-private-room Neonatal Intensive Care Unit that cares for babies born prematurely or critically ill. The NHRMC Betty H. Cameron Women’s & Children’s Hospital also has the only pediatric intensive care unit and pediatric surgery program in the region. These specialized services address the medical and surgical needs of children who need hospitalization. Comprehensive pediatric subspecialty care is provided through the Nunnelee Pediatric Specialty Clinics. The clinic is able to offer children with ongoing medical needs the opportunity to receive advanced pediatric care close to home.

The NHRMC Betty H. Cameron Women’s & Children’s Hospital is a two-time winner of the Studer Excellence in Patient Care Award, presented by a nationally recognized healthcare consulting firm, to recognize facilities for outstanding achievement in areas of patient safety and quality care. NHRMC Betty H. Cameron Women’s & Children’s Hospital is also designated as a Baby-Friendly facility, recognized for offering an optimal level of family-centered care and education on infant feeding and mother/baby bonding.

A 60-bed CARF-accredited inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation facility on NHRMC’s main campus, the NHRMC Rehabilitation Hospital helps patients with debilitating injury or disease recover mobility and independence, both through inpatient treatment and the Day Hospital Program.

The hospital has a 3,000-square-foot therapy gym and treats patients suffering from stroke, chronic conditions such as arthritis or multiple sclerosis, as well as patients who have suffered a traumatic brain or spinal cord injury. The focus is on improving a patient’s mobility, self-care, communication and social skills.

Outpatient therapy is provided at two Wilmington locations– Independence Rehabilitation and Oleander Rehabilitation – as well as Pender Health & Diagnostics-Rocky Point. Services include neurological, pediatric, vestibular, orthopedic and back rehabilitation as well as hand, communication and swallowing therapy.

Located on the hospital’s main 17th Street campus, the NHRMC Behavioral Health Hospital is a 62-bed psychiatric crisis stabilization hospital providing inpatient psychiatric programs for adults, older adults, and those with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders.

Accredited by the Joint Commission, the NHRMC Behavioral Health Hospital is staffed by a comprehensive team of mental healthcare professionals, including board-certified psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, nurses, psychotherapists, clinical social workers, certified addictions counselors, recreation and movement therapists.
