Tourists Flock To Wilmington
The 31 miles of uncrowded, wide sandy beaches overlooking the rolling surf of the magnificent Atlantic Ocean warmed by the Gulf Stream attract many thousands of tourists year after year to the Cape Fear coast.
Cozily nested between the Atlantic Ocean and the Cape Fear River, the city of Wilmington is an oasis between bodies of water. Although not actually bordering on the ocean, eastern portions of the city overlook the sounds, Intracoastal Waterway and barrier islands that lie between the city and the ocean. To the west, the city borders the busy Cape Fear River about 30 miles upstream from the open Atlantic Ocean.
Opportunities also abound for shopping, culture, sports, education, recreation, dining, sightseeing and just plain moseying about our fascinating and dynamic cityscape throughout the metropolitan Wilmington area. So many facets of this sparkling gem, Wilmington, and its surrounding suburban communities exist that it’s nearly impossible to list them all, but we give it a shot on our website and in our book.
