Topsail Fishing Sites

There are plenty of places on Topsail Island to fish, and visitors come from far and near to take advantage of all the opportunities to catch the big one, from surf casting to using the piers to going out on the charter boats that call Topsail home. There is a major fishing pier in each of the island’s towns; SeaView Pier is in North Topsail Beach, the Jolly Roger Pier is in Topsail Beach and the Surf City Pier is located where you’d expect to find it. Numerous fishing tournaments take place throughout the year on Topsail Island, reflecting the popularity of this sport.

Fishing Equipment And Gear

The place to find all the equipment you might need to enjoy your day fishing is located in a building on Roland Avenue in Surf City aptly named the Fishing Village. Within that complex, you’ll find East Coast Sports, the most complete tackle shop on the coast, with rods and reels and all the supplies you’ll need. You’ll find hardware and safety equipment, electronics, and water sports equipment for your boat and trailer there too, since Island Marine Supply is located there. If you’re interested in fishing charters, you’ll find many options as Topsail Charter Fishing offers both inshore and offshore charters. Boats and kayaks can also be rented there.

The Fishing Village is home to two other businesses too. Island Outfitters has island wear for men, women and children, with accessories for all ages too. On Shore Surf Shop has surf boards, clothing, surf lessons and board rentals. Topsail Island has a dedicated group of surfers who come out any time the surf’s up.

Celebrating Shrimp, Spot
Visitors also flock to two major festivals celebrating fish and seafood held in the area each year. The Shrimp Festival is held annually the second weekend of August in Sneads Ferry, across the bridge from North Topsail Beach. The Spot Festival, celebrating a fish prized locally, takes place the second weekend of September in Hampstead, 15 minutes from the swing bridge at Surf City. Both festivals feature all types of food (be sure to try the funnel cakes) in addition to the featured seafood, rides, games, live music and vendors selling interesting merchandise.

Topsail Island has a dedicated group of surfers who come out any time the surf’s up. Kite flying is popular too because the relatively uncrowded beaches offer plenty of room to spread out and move along. With lots of space for late afternoon games of beach volleyball and bocce, Topsail Island visitors are happy to take advantage of the wide expanses there.
