Carolina And Kure Beaches

The Carolina Beach/Kure Beach strand has about seven miles of beaches for swimming, protected by lifeguards in season and renourished by man if Mother Nature washes the beaches away. Both Carolina Beach and Kure Beach have numerous public beach accesses, many with parking, some with restrooms, and the entire strand is open to the public. Dogs are not permitted on the beaches during the tourist season.

For those who are tired of swimming or lying on the beach, there are alternatives. Wheel Fun Rentals is located on the Boardwalk in Carolina Beach and offers several types of human-powered devices. Two types of covered surreys are offered, a single surrey for a smaller number of people and a double surrey that can accommodate up to eight riders. Other options include cruiser bicycles, a “Deuce” coupe, and a chopper that is sure to draw interest. Wheel Fun Rentals also rents surfboards, boogie boards, sand toys and beach chairs, all at reasonable prices. Those who would prefer to pedal on water should visit the location at Lake Park, where both single and double pedal boats are available. If you prefer to use your arms, a kayak would be a good choice and both single and double kayaks are for rent.

Speaking of the lake in Carolina Beach, free movies are shown there at the amphitheatre during tourist season, and there’s a lovely one-mile walk around the lake. The alligator, which formerly resided there, has been relocated, lest he acquire an appetite for dogs, cats and children.

It’s usual to crave a bite to eat after you’ve expended energy pedaling or paddling. A trip to The Fudgeboat on the Boardwalk may be just the thing. You can choose from several varieties of fudge, all made with butter and cream, then enhanced with delectable additions including peanut butter, dark chocolate, caramel, pecans and marshmallows, among others. The Fudgeboat also carries dipped chocolates, glazed nuts and gourmet popcorn, and all items can be shipped too.

If you’d rather have something refreshingly cold, try Krazy Kones, also located on the Boardwalk in Carolina Beach. The very fresh dairy products are delivered from Jackson Dairy in Dunn, NC, then are turned into delicious, all natural soft serve ice cream that comes with a ribbon of a choice of delicious flavorings. Krazy Kones also has fresh popped, then caramelized popcorn as well as all types of candies, including a large assortment of jelly beans.
