From pre-kindergarten (Pre-K) to doctoral degrees, North Carolina’s southern coastal communities have education covered. Public, private, faith-based, charter and home schooling are available options for area children at both primary and secondary levels. Families planning to relocate to or within the area need to do their homework (so to speak) prior to choosing what the best fit is for their children because of the many possible options.

We’ve some terrific post-high school educational opportunities here, too, including a major university, two community college systems and a couple of private colleges. We can add to those a plethora of specialty training programs and professional advancement courses plus hundreds of continuing education classes in many disciplines. Beyond formal education and training, we have a host of personal enrichment programs for every age and just about every yearning.

While we’d like to go into great detail, space doesn’t permit, so we’re going to use a broad brush approach in this chapter. We hope to pique your interest enough that you’ll explore more fully on your own.
