Henrietta III Riverboat
A lovely way to view the river front in Wilmington is to take a ride on the Henrietta III, a wonderful riverboat berthed on Water Street at the foot of Dock Street.
The Henrietta III features 1-1/2 hour narrated cruises up and down the Cape Fear River during the daytime. Evening cruises, usually lasting four hours, are popular with locals as well as tourists and are great fun for special occasions. While aboard visitors will see Wilmington’s active port and will travel along the Cape Fear River, which has played such a prominent part in the city’s history.
Several special events are held throughout the year on the Henrietta III. Among the choices are Dinner Theater Cruises and Dinner Dance Cruises, always a popular way to impress your significant other.
Originally built as a dinner riverboat and later enlarged to be a casino riverboat, Henrietta III has three decks. The two lower decks have dining and dancing facilities while the upper deck has both an enclosed atrium and an open deck. Shorter cruises are available too.
Another ship in the Cape Fear Riverboats family operates from Water Street at the foot of Market Street. The Capt. J.N. Maffitt, originally a Navy liberty launch, functions as water taxi to the Battleship North Carolina.
It also offers 45-minute narrated sightseeing cruises twice per day in season. In addition, the ship offers four-hour nature cruises to the pristine Black River led by a coastal ecologist. The Maffitt also is available for private charter for parties up to 49.
