Poplar Grove Plantation

Poplar Grove Plantation, one of the oldest existing peanut plantations in North Carolina, is listed on the National Register of Historic Homes. It is located five minutes north of Wilmington on Highway 17 North and is well worth the visit.

The facility, preserved through the efforts of the non-profit Poplar Grove Foundation, opened as a museum in 1980. The homestead and outbuildings are intact and crafts such as blacksmithing and basketweaving are demonstrated during the year.

Poplar Grove hosts a Farmers Market each Wednesday featuring fruits, vegetables, plants, wines and pottery grown and made in North Carolina. One of the events that takes place at Poplar Grove in July each year, the Classy Chassis Antique Car Show and Country Flea Market, earned the distinction as a top-twenty attraction in the Southeast.

Other events held at Poplar Grove are a popular Halloween celebration complete with haunted house and a  Christmas tour using traditional displays.
