Cape Fear Museum
At Eighth and Market Streets, be sure to visit the wonderful Cape Fear Museum of History and Science. Founded in 1898 by the Daughters of the Confederacy, the museum collects, preserves, interprets and exhibits objects related to the history, science and cultures of the Lower Cape Fear.
Land of the Longleaf Pine is featured in the Museum now. It is the first chapter in the core exhibit at the museum, Cape Fear Stories, and focuses on the history, cultures and science of the Cape Fear region. The Cape Fear Museum also has an exhibit devoted to Michael Jordan, Wilmington’s basketball superstar.
Programs are offered throughout the year with interactive exhibits that pique a child’s interest in history and science. Summer camps and special hands-on programs are providing unique opportunities for stimulating interest in a fun setting.
Throughout the year, the Museum offers lectures by historians who are able to relate this area’s past in a very compelling way. Visits to this Museum should be on every residents and visitors priority list.
