About Us
OUR GOALS
Wilmington Today will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2008. The goal is to be the premiere guidebook for visitors and newcomers to the Cape Fear region. This full-color, hard cover book is placed in hotels, bed and breakfast properties and beach rental units throughout Wilmington and surrounding coastal communities. It is given to many of the new residents who move to this area every year. The book also is distributed in such high traffic areas as the offices of dentists, doctors and lawyers as well as in bank lobbies, visitors’ centers and hospital waiting rooms.
Wilmington Today remains in these distribution points year round, attracting attention and promoting area attractions. Our website, “WilmingtonToday.com,” is expanding dramatically too and is reaching a wide audience of prospective newcomers and visitors.
The new Wilmington Today features engaging writers who present all the area has to offer in a compelling way. The photographs are superb and the layout and design are second to none. This unique combination guarantees the guide’s usefulness to our readers in helping them plan and enjoy their stay. Advertisers are rewarded for their association with this top-quality guide.
Wilmington Today is locally owned, produced and published by people who are knowledgeable and enthusiastic about all Southeastern North Carolina has to offer
OUR STAFF
Hazel White Jones - Managing Director
Hazel is a writer and editor whose assignments have taken her from coast to coast in the U.S. and to places as distant as Monaco and Argentina. After traveling from Southern Maine through the tip of Florida, she ultimately chose to relocate to Wilmington for its unique combination of qualities that this publication enumerates and celebrates.
Peter Doran - Photographer
One of the most notable photographers in the Cape Fear region, Peter received a BFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology and a Masters Degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. His foreign travels include a three-month stint in Europe taking photographs for his Thesis, as well as a semester spent at Gujarat University in Ahmadabad, India. Peter strives to present his subject matter in its natural state, without manipulation. His work has appeared in numerous publications, including Our State magazine.
Jeremy Grissett - Design Director
The director of design at Inspire Creative Studios, a full-service marketing communications company, Jeremy produced the graphic design and layout for Wilmington Today. He worked closely with us to capture the vision we have for the book (as well as the website) and to present it in the best possible light. Jeremy’s work has appeared in LAYERS magazine.
Tom Jones - Sales Representative
A former owner of a New York City advertising agency, Tom has worked on numerous travel and tourism accounts on both the local and national level. He published a special interest national sports magazine for 22 years and has 30 years of advertising sales experience, the last six in Wilmington. Tom first discovered this area when stationed at Camp Lejeune as a proud member of the 2nd division of U.S. Marine Corps.
Gwynne Moore - Writer
Now president of a publishing, writing and editing company, Gwynne is a Duke University graduate. She is also a Registered Nurse who developed as a writer when she served as Director of Community Relations for a 500-bed hospital in Ohio for nearly ten years. She moved to Carolina Beach ten years ago after vacationing in the area often. Gwynne remains involved in the health care industry by producing patient teaching kits and educational materials.
Terry Moore - Writer
Local scribe Terry Moore is experienced in writing on Wilmington as a desirable destination. In 2004, he wrote the cover article, “Ports and Porches,” for Attaché magazine, US Airways in-flight publication. Although his professional background is in sales and marketing in the steel industry, his passion for writing started early. While still in high school, Terry began writing humor columns. That interest continues to this day. For more than 10 years, he’s authored a regular weekly humor column, “Ohldepharte,” which appears in Carolina Beach’s Island
Gazette.
